Hank Steinbrenner promises patience
Brian Cashman, the general manager since late 1997, prefers not to comment on moves until they are finalized. Steinbrenner realizes that."There's a famous line from the movie 'Patton' where Patton has gotten himself in trouble again by saying something to the press. And he told his aide, his captain, 'The next time I start to do something like that stop me,"' Steinbrenner said. "Then the guy says, 'Well, I'll give you a gentle nudge.' And he says, 'No, you give me a swift kick in the ass.' So I told Brian that one time."Sure sounds like his father there."Hal is more reserved than George," said Howard Rubenstein, the longtime family and Yankees spokesman. "Hank is really a pretty accurate reflection. When I first saw the pictures in the paper, I had to do a double take."Like his father, Hank Steinbrenner will defend the Yankees against other teams envious of their winning and wealth.
2007: The year in review
Ultimately, though, the $15million, 120-foot-tall building on two acres of the park was approved. Our take Staff writer Michael Futch has observed the arts and entertainment scene in Fayetteville for two decades: "Already, Festival Park has proven it can be a cornerstone for the gathering of people. But it will never compete for major recording artists with the Alltel Pavilion at Walnut Creek in Raleigh, the Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park in Cary or the outdoor Joseph. M. Bryan Jr. Theater at the N.C. Museum of Art in Raleigh. That’s a given. Stage shows can be presented there. High school graduations can be staged there. And, among other things, so can smaller-scale concerts. Think Gillian Welch over Faith Hill. Think Al Green over Alicia Keys." Your take Fouad Fakhouri is the music director and conductor of the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra: "With the idea of rejuvenating downtown and changing the image of the downtown area, I think it’s a wonderful thing to happen.
Paula Vogel hopes to learn a lot teaching at Yale
She is now looking forward to "getting in the sand box" with her colleagues at Yale. "Anyone in the American theater today is working alongside the Yale School of Drama," she said. "It's a fact of our field." Vogel, 56, said she is also looking forward to working with the Yale Repertory Theatre and New Haven's Long Wharf Theatre. Plans are underfoot to stage her new play about Christmastime during the Civil War at the Long Wharf. And there is talk of making her the theater's playwright-in-residence or artistic associate. The chance to work with both those theaters makes her feel as though she has "fallen into the honey pot as a writer," she said. "To be able to immerse myself in my teaching and literally get to the Long Wharf rehearsal stage in a five-minute drive, I find very appealing." Yale has one of the most prestigious drama schools in the country.

She scored "good" under educational leadership for understanding and keeping informed of all aspects in instructional programs and under comprehensive planning and involvement for maintaining memberships in professional organizations. These were her highest scores. None of her scores were "unacceptable." Her lowest score was "poor" under staff personnel relationships for developing good morale and loyalty to the organization.
