Microsoft To Provide Paid Search Listings For Wall Street Journal
Under the agreement, Microsoft will use technology from its Advertiser and Publisher Solutions Group to place third-party, paid search listings on the Dow Jones Web sites. "Microsoft's state-of-the-art advertising platform will enable us to dramatically improve our revenues," said Gordon McLeod, president of the Wall Street Journal Digital Network, in a statement. Microsoft acquired much of its online advertising technology through its $6 billion buyout last year of aQuantive -- the corporate parent of digital ad agency Avenue A-Razorfish. Microsoft said it expects to start serving up ads on the Dow Jones sites starting next month. Both Microsoft and Dow Jones will presumably receive per-click payments from companies who's ads appear on WSJ.com and the other Web sites, though Microsoft did not provide specifics of the arrangement.
Livermore draws tenants downtown
LIVERMORE A retail and office project that was fashioned to help spark a downtown revival here has nearly filled up its shopping and dining spaces and is finding tenants for its offices. The $24 million Livermore Valley Plaza development, bolstered by an adjacent cinema complex and performing arts center, is now a key piece of the downtown puzzle. Developed by Michael Madden, son of Oakland Raiders legend and football broadcaster John Madden, the 75,000-square-foot plaza has helped a more lively downtown emerge from its moribund past. "You have a movie theater, the performing arts center, some new restaurants, other stuff going on there," developer Michael Madden said. "These projects have really shifted the dynamic of downtown Livermore." The 13-screen movies and the live artscenter were especially crucial.
Foreclosures take toll in Lincoln, nation
RealtyTrac, which tracks foreclosure rates nationwide, listed 683 properties in Lincoln that as of Wednesday were either in the foreclosure process or already had been foreclosed upon. But the company does not give corresponding historical totals, making a comparison with previous years impossible.Thompson, who sells foreclosed homes in both Lincoln and Omaha, says he saw about a 20 percent increase in foreclosures in those markets in 2007.Statistics suggest a larger increase. RealtyTrac said foreclosures were up 84 percent in Nebraska through the first six months of last year."In my 22 years of doing foreclosures, I would say this is the peak of foreclosure activity," said Eric Lindquist, an Omaha attorney who represents lenders in foreclosure cases.Lindquist says about half of the cases he works on don’t end in a foreclosure sale, because people are able to renegotiate terms, get caught up on payments or sell their homes on their own and pay off their debts.Still, he said, the problem in Nebraska is "nowhere near" what it is in other states.Nebraska’s overall foreclosure rate of 1.33 percent of all mortgage loans in the third quarter was well below the national average of 1.69 percent, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association.
